Heater Revamps

Why people revamp heaters

There are many reasons to revamp a heater. Some of the more common reasons include:

  • Changing or increasing process
  • Coking inside of tubes
  • Increase in efficiency
  • Changes in feedstock type, composition, or quantity
  • Environmental compliance
  • Need to increase reliability and/or runtime
  • The tubes, refractory or structure has deteriorated

Examples of heater revamp work we can provide are:

  • Convection Section Replacement or Modification
  • Radiant Coil Replacement or Modification
  • Coil Metallurgy Upgrades
  • Reduction of Tramp Air to Decrease NOx
  • Low NOx Burner Retrofits
  • New Air Preheater Installations
  • Existing Air Preheater Replacement or Repair
  • Stack and/or Stack Damper Replacements
  • Tube Skin Thermocouple Replacement
  • Tube Support Replacements

Heater Doors

Why Clients Replace Their Heater Doors with GST Heater Doors:

  1. Reducing NOx from leaking doors
  2. Ability to view heater without disrupting the flame pattern
  3. Protects operators from flame rollout on a puffing heater.
  4. Flame scanning can be a one-person job as the door uses a side-henge.

Specifications

  • 5″ X 9″ and 8″ X 16″ off-the-shelf sizes or custom sizes available
  • Frames included to adapt door to any heater curve and style
  • High temperature glass is resistant to clouding and permits viewing the burners without air leakage (Door can be provided without glass depending on customer need)
  • Double-hinged design allowing door body and glass to be opened for IR scanning and cleaning of inside glass surface.
  • Insulated stainless steel shutter to protect glass from direct radiant heat and limit soot build-up

Stack Dampers

Stack dampers play a vital role in overall heater performance and safety. Great Southern designs and manufactures a specialized stack damper for a reliable heater draft control with increased controllability. This increased control reduces emissions, allows for burner optimization, and provides efficient operation at turndown.

  • GST damper replacements are installed without removing the stack to reduce installation duration and cost.
  • Self-lubricating bearings versus pipe sleeve shafts, which can rust and seize over time.
  • Multi-bladed design makes the heater much easier to control compared to a single bladed design.
  • GST often supplies the installation services (turnkey) as an option to simplify the client’s process, reduce project costs, and to further minimize downtime.
